I visited Bonne Saison, the Thai and French restaurant that opened on Bayside's Bell Blvd. about a year ago, for the second time this past week. It is by far the best restaurant on the street. Unfortunately, hardly anyone was in there. This place deserves a ton of business! I want it to stay open because it is amazing! Here's why...
According to one of the waiters, the restaurant was started by a married couple. One is Thai and an experienced Thai chef. The other is an experienced French chef. Therefore, the menu offers both authentic and delicious Thai and French options.
The wait staff is attentive, friendly and knowledgable. We even received wine on the house.
The food is out of this world. On my latest visit, I ordered sliced pork with the spicy cashew nut sauce, served with sauteed cashews, onions, celery and peppers. It was perfect and thoughtfully presented. I've eaten at Sripraphai and this dish was just as good as anything I've had there. And at only $11, it was quite a bargain.
My dad ordered one of the French specials. I believe it was Chilean sea bass in a lobster peppercorn sauce with mashed potatoes, asparagus and a few shrimp. He said it was the best Chilean sea bass he had ever eaten. I tried a bite and I loved the textures in the dish. The fish had a crispy top, covered in the sauce, a wonderfully flaky interior and it sat on top of the creamy mashed potatoes.
For an appetizer, we shared a special--the duck rolls. Perfectly cooked duck and sliced veggies wrapped in a flour tortilla with hoisin sauce. It was awesome.
In short, Bonne Saison is amazing and deserves hounds' business!
