Monday's lunch was a stop at The Boat House on Hwy 1 in Bodega Bay. My first visit, it's Sharuf's favorite for fish and chips.

In addition to a some seating inside, an overhang shades an outdoor dining area. Since it was cold and foggy out, I took a seat inside after ordering and paying at the counter. The view from indoors faces back toward the coastal route, and if you look down, you'll spot the mound of discarded oyster shells.

The fish and chips, $8.95, set a very good standard. Yet, I'd have to agree with Emily that while the beer batter is light and crispy, it's just a bit too oil-soaked, clean and fresh oil while that may be. The rockfish is quite fresh even though not local. I was especially impressed by the french fries, nice waxy smooth texture and fried to a golden crisp, in a year when the potato crop has let us down. The tartar sauce was also worth noting, thick and fresh-tasting with a savory bit of pimento.

I would certainly return here. However, I've not given up the hunt for something better.
