Chowhound is 100% devoted to getting as many people as possible excited about visiting New Orleans (and environs) and injecting much-needed cash as places slowly start to reopen. We want to encourage every chowhound everywhere of their obligation to go down and support the area ASAP.
While we've been glad, as an extraordinary measure, to donate this board for disaster comments and info, Chowhound.com can be of more help doing what we do best: reserving this board for chow talk which will get people excited about going out to eat. The more focused that talk is, the more attractive this board (and, by extension, the slowly revamping food scene down there) will be.
So please be advised that, as of Monday 10/17), this board will return to being moderated, and we'll ask that discussion be confined, once again, to where to eat in and near the city.
HOWEVER! If anyone wants to reminisce, discuss recovery, etc., that's absolutely ok. Here's how to do it without diluting this board's chowfulness. Place such discussion on our Not About Food message board...and post a "heads up" here announcing that discussion. That way our NO community will hear about it and can jump over to participate.

As a personal note, I'm going to try to get down there very soon. I'm not much help with sandbags or levee engineering, but I can sure get people excited about food.
