Blues Diner and others

Stopped in Melrose Center for my first time ever after a quick Square 1 Mall trip to try the Blues Diner even tho it's only gotten fair reviews here. Diner looking place with lots of kitschy photos. Can't judge too much by my one meal but they make a fine turkey club sandwich for sure. Real turkey meat which is key, good amount of bacon, asked for just 2 slices of bread cuz the 3rd is superfluous. Fries were only okay with big hunks of sea or kohser salt noticeably stuck on them. Too full for dessert but a good plate of food for about $7.

Watched part of the Pitt-Cincy game at the bar at Daedalus outside Harvard Sq. on Sun. which I hadn't been to in a long time. They didn't have much of a choice for smaller items, a cubano, burger and I went with the jerk chicken sandwich w/ mango salsa and chipotle mayo (I think). Didn't notice much jerk action going on but it was fine with good handcut fries. Bartender was nice, with a refreshing ginger beer it came to $11.

Some quick hits: Tried Ma Magoo's by Fresh Pond finally after reading a good review of their steak & cheese subs here. After a hellish drive back from VT and entering their parking lot in the most embarrassing way, I expected a lot more. Steak was fairly dry, cheese wasn't fully melted, not a big deal. The BLT sub w/ cheese warmed in the oven from Village Fare outside Brkln. Vil. for $4.75 was a much better meal. Choc. chip cookies from Blue Frog in JP are not their forte. Grapenut ice cream at JP Licks: Yum but not on the menu that often.
