Bluehour - a rather long request...

So, thoughts on this place?
I've heard great, and not so great things....
(Great food & service to mediocre overpriced food, long waits- even with reservation- and bad service...)
I made reservations back on Jan. 3rd for Feb. 14th. They called this weekend to confirm but asked for a credit card number to guarantee the reservation?!?! (Surprised as I’ve never heard of that before...) I told them I didn’t have one and they ‘made an exception for me’. (I don’t want my credit card info sitting around.) Or are they subversively trying to confirm that I can afford such an extravagant dinner- not knowing I just threw down nearly $400 for 2 at a restaurant in Nov.- to save those precious Valentines Day seats for those who can? Prolly not- but it sure made me feel that way….
Also they said they will have a 'special menu' that evening but it will not be posted on the website... nor could he tell me what was on it. Said they would fax it to me once it had been designed (Feb. 7th or so) but what if I don't like it or I am allergic? And what will the cost be (not wanting to pay $40 for Filet Mignon as I know I could pay that at El Gaucho/Morton’s and probably have it done better as it is their specialty.)
If all these things go awry a week before Feb. 14th it will be to late to make another reservation at another restaurant.
All very odd.
Should I go and expect great things or just make reservations elsewhere?
I don’t mean to sound snotty- thought they did seem so on the phone…- I really want to try this place but right now all my instincts are saying go somewhere else!
Foodies Unite! I call on your knowledge! Convince me of your argument (for OR against.) :)
