Going to Blair's Friday, and may opt for similar offerings.
The above was the basis of a post at the beginning of the week, where the short ribs were among several favorite topics on the Blair's menu.
Well, companion tonight had them, loved them, even though he felt the polenta to be too sugared and the polenta too grainy, yet he is always a mashed potatoes guy, so no surprise. I tasted the ribs and they have an almost unctious taste and texture that you truly need to try. The carmelized onion/balsamic confit is the perfect sauce adornment. Have had them twice previously yet these were the best of the 3 tries.
He started with the field greens, while I had the avocado soup with corn, chiles and chicken. Greens are greens while the avocado soup lacked a little of the avocadoish flavor, but the flavors of the corn and chile additions were quite prevalent and made good counterpoint. The chicken added almost nothing except protein.
My entree was the halibut which after soup was a perfect foil. Marshall understands seafood and this dish justified that thought perfectly.
I had a glass of Branham Zin with the first course and a Solomon Pinot Noir with the entree, while companion had an Aquinas chard which he said "was just fine".
Then my companion had a dessert of lemon ice cream pie with a kumquat and maybe currant type sauce that was truly wonderful while I had the bread pudding with apricot and a coupla other flavors that also combined perfectly. Danielle Kenne is the pastry chef and her desserts provide great reading and even greater tastes. Go some night just for a dessert and after dinner beverage. You won't be disappointed.
Total was $116 plus tip. Desserts are $9, wines are $10, ribs were $26, halibut was $22, apps were $6-7. This was my friend's birthday dinner, yet if I were to just go on a regular, non-celebratory night, probably would opt for entree and dessert and pass on the apps.
Still enjoyable after all these visits!
