. Dined at Bistro Juliana last evening with my lady and I must say that this new Italian BYOB located in is absolutely amazing... now I know what most of you are thinking- another Italian BYO in Philly- ho-hum... how special could it be?!?! Well, trust my friends this is a welcomed addition to the already overcrowded market. The owners of Radicchio Cafe have opened this tiny gem right in the heart of Port Richmond and it reminds somewhat of when Radicchio first opened... tiny corner, abandoned parking lot adjacent to the restaurant in the shadows of I-95... and the menu has its similarities, but with updated additions that immediately whisk you away to the Amalfi coast. To start, my companion and I shared the grilled octopus, served in a small dish with ceci beans, celery, carrot, red onions, splashed with lemon and olive oil... in a word it was delightful... an updated version of the classic at Radicchio... the second shared dish was brought to the table by the owner for us to simply try... the sautéed calamari, tossed with escarole, hot pepper, and red onion... a squeeze of lemon and away we go... it was to die for... both appetizers were amazing and the portion size was perfect.
My mouth was still watering as our entrees arrived... My fiancé had the orchiette pasta (whole wheat) with shrimp and spinach in a white wine lemon sauce while I had the whole fish- striped bass, lemon, olive oil, filleted table side with a side of escarole... my fiancé put her fork down and declared that it was one of the best pasta dishes she has put in her mouth in this city! The striped bass was so moist and flavorful; I did not want the meal to end...
The menu is full of many delicious options, I wish I could list the whole menu for you because everything looked and sounded very good... All I can say is trust me- ignore the Applebee’s and Burger King two blocks ahead of it, and try Bistro Juliana... a true local neighborhood gem amongst giants... from the pasta, to fish (salmon and the Dover sole!), and meat (filet and veal) and nothing is priced over $20! The bread is even good here which is my only major complaint about Radicchio... try it and you will not be disappointed-
