We stopped off at Ad Hoc last night to see if we could talk our way into a table or bar seat. We couldnt. Not even after we showed the maitre d' a photo (on our iPhone) of us with Keller holding up copies of the Ad Hoc cookbood at a NYC book signing. Oh well.... at least she got a chuckle out of it. Although I still would like to eat there, especially on fried chicken night, the evening worked out even better, as we went to Bistro Jeanty and had a wonderful meal, start to finish.
We ordered a bottle of Turley Zin '07, which I have come to realize is incredibly well priced at $60. Worth every penny, this is a very nice bottle of wine. We ordered radishes w/ butter and salt, a nice start. Ginny then ordered bone marrow for her app, and I ordered duck foie w/poached pear for mine. Both of these were quite good, but the bone marrow exceeded any we've ever had. HIghly recommended. Her entree was the beef stew, a fine rendition of a classic and I had a risotto special (French risotto???). It was perfectly done, Italians would be proud, and it had chunks of rabbit loin that were perfectly cooked and flavorful. Also included was a healthy dose of shitake mushrooms and some very nice, fresh peas. A marvelous dish. We finished this all off with humbolt fog and epoisses servings and then espressos. A lttle over $100pp all in, but worth much more. We go to French bistros in NYC enough to recognize this place as quite the exception & would recommend it to anyone in the area.
As an aside, although the outdoor area is nice, the back room with the fireplace was the place to be and we would recommend making sure to be seated there. It completes the picture perfect meal.
