Biryani House revisited

SacredKow | | Feb 15, 2004 03:44 PM

Went to Biryani House on Wellesley for St. Valentine's (after unsuccessfully calling about 20 restaurants on Thursday trying to get a reservation for Saturday). An earlier review, cited below, praised the food but criticized the service. Under the pressure of several hours of a completely full house, the service seemed to break down even more last night. Waiters standing around with a dish and no idea of where to take it, longish wait to be seated in spite of having a reservation, very long waits for food and drink.

Still, the food was so good, with so many unusual touches, that I'm tempted to go back and try it again on a quieter night. We had one of the Valentine's special menus for 2: samosa, lamb chops, butter chicken, smoky eggplant, raita, nan, gulab jamun (1 ball) and kulfi (1 piece), for something like $52. But even the things that sound routine, like samosa or nan or raita, all were prepared in unusual and delicious ways and presented with flair.
