Birthday Lunch at Hell's Kitchen-Yum

I wanted something different to celebrate the 40th anniversay of my 21st birthday and for weeks have been asking you chow hounds about various places to go. Finally decided on Hell's Kitchen. It did not disappoint. Although it was rainy and cold and awful today, I made sure I got there for lunch anyway.

My 61st birthday lunch consisted of: Rock Shrimp, Boniato and Corn Cake with Habanero Mango Salsa. While I pondered their menu, my really cute and really helpful wait person, Bobby, made my fab strawberry Margarita. For the main course I chose (and wisely I might add) the Chile Mecco Shredded Pork with Creme Fraiche on soft tacos. They brought out a ramekin of bean salsa with tiny sweet corn wedges to eat it with. Really yummy! Along with my main dish they served an organic green salad with a lone "bunker buster" chile. I named it that because the farther down it went in my throat the more damage it did! However, like everything else, it was perfecto.

While they didn't have birthday cake on the menu, I had Sponge Cake soaked with rum and Tres Leches with a cherry compote. Triple yummy! While I yearned for a Mexican coffee or perhaps a glass of Muscat, the buzz from the Margarita was still there and I didn't want to spoil it.

I managed to covert Bobby over to Chow Hound. As it turns out we're both from Georgia: he's from Athens, I'm from Savannah. Small world. If you're in the mood for wonderful food, great ambiance and really nice folks, I highly recommend my birthday place. And thanks so much Chow Hounders over the last weeks helping me decide. It was a winner.
