birthday celebration chowhound style

Well today is my birthday and to celebrate instead of some fancy schmancy restaurant, I wanted some of my favorite foods that require travel (and in opposite directions).

So off we (hubby and I) went to get fried ipswich belly clams from Bigelows in Rockville Center for Lunch, along with some yummy New England Clam Chowder and great fries. Was going to stop at Itgen's in Valley Stream for a hot fudge sundae with java chip ice cream but decided that we were too full at the moment, even for a cone, so we trucked on back to QUeens and then rested a bit, did some work in the afternoon and in the evening hopped back into the chowmobile to drive to DiFara's - our teenage son and a good friend meet us there and the deal was who ever got there first would order a sicilian pie, and a round pie, half mushroom. We all came by different means, driving, subway and bus to converge for the square vs round eatoff. We didnt manage to finish all the pizza, so I am looking forward to breakfast tomorrow!!

Still had to wait about 20 minutes after we got there for the first pie and the second took a while to - but good things are worth waiting for and man is Dom's pizza good. Now when he sees me he automatically gives me an extra plate of grated grana padana, which I consider an honor. Man, oh man, can that man make pizza. Boy did I eat too much...

Capped the night off with starbucks Java Chip Ice Cream and Ben and Jerry's mint cookie chip. The coffee was perfect but the highlight of the day was still the pizza with the clams running a close second...

Say good night gracie...Until next year...
