Lunch today at Big D's Dogs on Lower Greenville. It's a small shop; the only seating is stools along the wall. Since I was trying it for the first time, I decided to go all-out-- a Little T Dog (hot dog with ketchup, mustard, onions, and relish) with nacho fries, washed down with an Orangina. 10 hours later I'm still full and haven't been able to eat another bite. The hot dog was great-- probably the best in town. Both the dog and bun are perfectly grilled, and the resulting flavor really comes through. The generous portion of nacho fries were an attempt to satisfy my craving for Snuffers' cheese fries (which is directly across the street). They were a mediocre substitute: hand cut fries with an equal level of greasiness, limp with cheese sauce, sour cream, green onions, and japapenos. They weren't any more flavorful than regular cheese fries, and didn't really hit the spot. I didn't come close to finishing the fries after tackling the Little T first.
Since I live in walking distance to Harry's, I don't know that I can declare that this will be my new go-to for hot dogs. But Big D's unique advantage is that it's open until 3AM on the weekends, so I can imagine another Little T sometime in my near future.
