Bernie's Mexican, little eatery in mall near Kimball's Jazz Club in Emeryville, circa 1990

I post this every couple years, hoping.

My first taste of real Mexican food was by an amazing, chowhoundish guy named Bernie, when I played (actually we were the first-ever group) at Kimball's East jazz club in Emeryville circa 1990.

there was a farmer's market next to the club, with amazing stuff. and bernie's stand was wonderful. I remember he said he owned a number of little places around the Bay.

Anyone remember? Anyone know where Bernie is now, and if any of his other places were open?

Bernie was a real jazz fan, too. He knew half the guys in the band by reputation. Had such passion for music and food. Every time I'd pass his stand, he'd grab me and make me "try this". God, those were among the best days of my life. I'd never had anything more than vaguely Mexican before.

ciao
