by way of confession, i have been frequenting this place quite regularly as my go-to prospect heights 'nabe establishment. i am a staunch supporter, though without any other interest than my eating/drinking delight.
food-wise, beast is really evoloving and there are some menu items that have become standouts. tonight, i enjoyed a new 'special' that i was assured will be part of the regular menu going forward. it was a pan-seared herbed salmon over a salad with raw onions, baby greens & tomato, and melon with a zippy vinaigrette. this combination was unexpectedly delish, especially with the pinot bianco i was drinking.
their scallops have become my absolute fave preparation of this mollusk, save the raw offered sometimes at blue ribbon, which really can't be challenged:-) beast does scallops with a butternut squash-puree below and a crispy onion-thing above. the scallops, themselves, are usually huge and flavorful.
the toffee-pudding dessert is also worth a trip, just in itself.
what i like most about this resto is that they appear truly to consider feedback and change things that are not working so well. and, that their willingness to experiment often results in yummy food.
p.s., i can't vouch for the carnivorous choices, but they sure do smell good!!
i'm hoping people will keep this place on the radar as a tasty, relaxed, good-vibe, brooklyn destination with a staff that is earnest about their food and responsive to their customers.
