OK - For the love of my fellow chowhounds, I've just ruined all hopes of fitting into that cute, little dress.
Saturday evening I stopped by Tasty Q Bar-B-Que
2959 Crenshaw Boulevard,L.A. 90016 (323) 735-8325 for a BBQ fix.
I know that Philips' wins all the awards, but if you're passing by Tasty-Q en route to Philips', you're missing out on wonderful barbecue.
I got the 3-meat meal which is honestly enough for 3 people of modest appetite or 2 hungry people. It was hard making a choice, but I went for the chicken links, BBQ chicken and for the chowhounds ... Beef ribs.
The things that make Tasty-Q so good are 1) the wonderful, smoky flavor embedded in the meats and 2) the sauce. My fingers smelled smoky even after a couple of washings. I got the mixed sauce (I'm a sauce on the side gal) but think that next time I'll get hot. The sauce was delicious, slightly sweet, smoky and with a nice afterburn.
For sides I had Barbecued beans with lots of shreds of smoked turkey flavoring them and coleslaw which was unremarkable.
The links are always tasty - slightly spicy and cooked so that they are still juicy. I usually get white meat but forgot to ask. The chicken leg and thigh were just right for me; cooked through, but not dry. The beef ribs too had been slow cooked over fire (no parboiling apparent) and were tender but still had some resistance to the bite.
If the holidays were not iminent I'd be making several more trips to Tasty-Q right away. While I was waiting for my meal, I thought hard about getting the Turkey Wings and dressing, but resisted. Tasty-Q also does fried turkey, pulled pork, pork ribs and sliced beef. Yummmy!
If you're planning Thanksgiving dinner, make your reservation to have them prepare your bird soon. Every year, I see people walking away near tears as they find out it's too late to have their turkey fried by the folks at Tasty-Q.
