As a true southerner, I was always sad that my new home in Kingston didnt have a BBQ restaurant. Sure, Max's in Rhinebeck was awesome - but too far for lunch. Hickory on Rte 28 just wasnt my style - I like some sauce, not a dry rub. I wanted collard greens and cornbread. On Sunday - I was answered.
Right across town on Broadway - right near the train overpass - an old fashioned BBQ has opened! Its not much to look at. No fancy sign, just some posters in the window (hand drawn with a marker). But inside is some of the tastiest BBQ Ive had. Plus - its CHEAP!! Ive been twice since they opened, because the first time I couldnt believe it! Now, its simple. You could go in wearing greasy work clothes and get the same "Baby you want some cornbread with that?" that I received. Todays special, Fish and Chips - thats whiting, battered in house, served with fries for only $3.50. My husband raved! I went with a pulled pork sandwich, on a roll with coleslaw, served with fries. That set me back $4.50. I strongly recommend the collard greens. As soon as they get some fresh brewed sweet tea in there Ill know Im in NY to stay. Give them a try - think more fast food thats real food - than "nice" restaurant. Still a great addition in Kingston.
