Stopped in a couple of weeks ago for lunch at Hickory Smokehouse BBQ on Rt. 28 between Kingston and Woodstock. We were initially drawn to the place because every time we drove by the aroma of the smokhouse was unmistakeable. I'm a real BBQ fan- grew up in the South, so I know what BBQ is suppossed to taste like. I have been very disappointed with the BBQ I've had in NY,
but the BBQ at this place was very good-
I had a pulled pork sandwich, my friend had a pork shoulder special.
Both were moist, full of smokey flavor. And like all real BBQ, the sauce was on the side, in fact the place had their own sauces in bottles on the table. One was on the sweet side, the other tangy (my favorite). Good sides, too.
These folks know what they're doing.
I can't wait to return.
If you're up that way, give them a try.
By the way, they have a website- www.hickoryrestaurant.com
