Alas, my heart is broken again! I really liked Barrio when it first opened (even with some flaws), but I really think it has gone downhill. The "perfecto nestorindo" cocktail used to include delicious, fresh tamarind, but now they ruined it by using mango instead. They no longer have the charred steak mini-tacos, but rather a bland, braised short rib taco. The guacamole is fresh, but really under-seasoned. Even one of their best dishes, the "puebla" pork w/ a red chile/peanut mole, somehow seems lackluster now. ...
So many "upscale" Mexican restaurants in Park Slope (e.g., Maria's, Piramide) start off great, and then have a huge downhill. What's up with that? I know that there is some great Mexican food elsewhere in Brooklyn (Sunset Park, etc.) and of course other boroughs too, but what's so hard about keeping a decent place around this neck of the woods?
Can I get a witness? Or am I just a stereotypical "entitled," whining Park Slope type? ;)
