Bar Celona - Pasadena

My sister and I decided to try Bar Celona, the new-ish tapas bar on Colorado in Old Town Pasadena. The space used to be Sorriso's, which is now down the street.

We ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir to start, and waited patiently for the bread basket everyone else had on their table. We got one glass of wine (misunderstanding, no biggie), but no bread. We ordered our food, and still no bread. I realize with the no-carb crazy some restaurants want you to specifically ask for bread, so we did. Much to our chagrin, we were told they "ran out." It was 8 p.m. on a Saturday night - you'd think they would plan for these things.

We ordered four plates: Chicken empanadas, filet mignon salad with blue cheese, assorted cheese/meat plate and the meatballs. We got the empanadas first. They were incredibly salty and relatively tasteless besides that. But the worst part was that I actually pulled three bones out when I was eating it! I believe the chicken is ground, but there were three, very long, thin bones plus a few bone shards in the ground meat. We pointed this out to our waitress, who apologized but offered nothing for our trouble.

Next came the meatballs - also incredibly salty. The cheese plate was impressive: three different cheeses, chorizo, sausage and proscuitto - but it was kind of hard to eat with no bread :( About half way through our cheese plate, they brought us bread (they baked some, thankfully). Last was the filet salad, which was quite good, though it had a little too much blue cheese in it. We got our bill, nothing was taken off (they should have removed the empanadas), so we just paid and left a decent tip then took off.

Went down to Sorriso's afterward for a drink - great atmosphere and prompt, friendly service. I think I'll eat there next time....
