Baked and Chestnut--half a report

Tried to go to the new BAKED bakery down in Red Hook (Van Brunt near Dikeman) on this chilly morning, but they were still closed when I got there around 8:30am (sign said they opened at 8). Sigh. So no coffee or hot chocolate or treats for me--just two fruitless b61 bus rides. It looked cute, though. Anyone else been there at a more bohemian-friendly hour?
But on a happier chow note, dropped in at Chestnut (Smith near Union) a couple nights ago, sat at the bar and had a great, very tuscan-style plate of paparadelle with rich shreddy oxtail, mushrooms and a little chard. Mmmm. And, of course, their swell housemade potato chips and the bread-and-pickle platter.
