So Baja on the post road in orange ct used to be in my top 3 mexican restaurants in the New Haven area along with Mezcal and Guadalupe. Sure the place reeks of tires but I am a sucker for a good salsa bar.
My last day off I went there for a torta and a beer. The food was good but I did not count on the owner tearing into my server in the dining room. Listening to a middle age authoritarian berate my 19 year old female server kind of ruined the taste of my sandwich. I heard the two women sitting at a table by the window say that it was "the most uncomfortable lunch of [their] lives." From what I could gather she hadn't cleared a table fast enough after the customers had left. She was the only server on the floor and had prioritized taking my order. The entire thing seemed rediculous and went on way too long.
I don't like the idea that the money I spend their goes into the pocket of this creepy old guy. There is too much better mexican around. Next time I will go to Mezcal where the owner is a really nice friendly guy.
