Found myself in Brookline Village for lunch, where I usually get something standing at the bar at Matt Murphy's. Opted instead to knock off an old entry on my to-try list, Baja Betty's, which has gotten good marks here.
Two tacos, one with green-chili roast pork and the other with barbacao (slow cooked, mm, top round, maybe?) -- carne asada is served at dinner only. Deliciously-sauced fillings (especially liked the red-chili sauce on the beef), very fresh toppings (pico de gallo, shredded lettuce), excellent soft corn tortillas. About $3 a pop for generously-sized tacos.
I had a good feeling when I was followed in by a couple of Boston's finest, going a little off their beat for lunch. Super-casual atmosphere: cafeteria-style service. Drink options are homemade lemonade, Mexican bottled sodas, and fountain Coke products. Certainly the best tacos I've had in a long time. I'm bringing friends back here soon.
