Sadly, I was very disappointed with my dinner Saturday at Bistro Campagne which I had looked forward to so much. It all started off well dining outside in their beautiful garden. The problems did not begin to occur until the main courses arrived. Our waitress started off on a strong note, showing great knowledge of the menu and the evening's ingredients. However, after we received our appetizers, she then diappeared until shortly before dessert.
The main courses were a disaster. My duck was cooked perfectly but was extremely salty, just barely edible as a result. Two other dining companions ordered the roast chicken which came with onion frite. The frite were so salty that they tasted as if someone accidentally poured salt over them and were inedible. In our large group, oversalting was the norm with almost everything. It was beyond belief, almost as if someone was playing a joke on us, just how salty everything was.
When we mentioned the salt issue to our waitress after she finally reappeared she apologized but then explained how she heard a similar complaint from another table and that the restaurant was having some problems because the executive chef has been sick and away for "a few weeks."
Desserts were good, especially the lemon tart, although we never received the chocolate souffle we ordered. I would love to return, but without question I will inquire to find out if the regular chef is back.
