Bacchus

Every time I go there, I appreciate it more. We weren't able to get close at Downtown Atlantic on Saturday night (even the bar area was packed with eaters), so we went over to Bacchus. It was cold out so the outdoor area was closed: that was pretty much the only reason it wasnt our first choice for dinner that night anyway, since we eat at Downtown Atlantic quite often. Their tables & bar area were full as well, but they got us in within 10-15 minutes.
Now that they have a liquor license, they have a good selection of reasonably priced wine, full bottles and by the glass. My wife and I went for individual glasses and both my Cahoors and her Macon-Village were from good producers and well priced ($7/glass). Her citrus salad ($7)was excellent, my bowl of soup ($5) was just as good. Her baked salmon was a large portion of high quality (only $12); my skate special ($15 or $16 I think) in a cream sauce w/mushrooms was similarly large and of high quality, excellent preparation. The veggie sides were good as well. Be aware that this is one of the few places that doesnt feel the need to always give a starch (rice or potatoes) with every entree. If you need it & it's not listed on the menu as part of the entree, you'll have to order it. We didnt feel it was needed, especially given the generous portions of fish. All in all, we were very happy. I highly recommend the place. The owners are friendly, the rooms are charming, the outdoor area one of the best around and the food itself is the star. Besides the dishes we got on Saturday, we can personally vouch for the moulles frites, the steak au poive (w/frites), the hanger steak, and the boudin (blood sausage) w/apples (my usual favorite). Anyone else have a recent review? I'm curious if others are as impressed.
