I'm no bacalaitos expert, but the ones we just had at 168th and St. Nicholas (lunch cart on the corner) were wonderful--filled with potato, fish, spices, deep fried and huge, $1. The chicken pastelito was filled with plain, tender, chunks of heavily garlicked meat, also $1. If you're in the New York Presbyterian area, there are some other interesting Dominican specialties (batidas $2). Down the block, the sweet-arepa man sells his own chicken soup ($2). We'll try that next. It would be great if NY Presbyterian area could be surrounded by food trucks like those around the U. of Penn.
