Awesome/Wild dinner at Tre Scalini

Hi all:

After all the posts regarding Tre Scalini, and thinking we were the last two Chowhounds on the planet that hadn't visited there yet, Herbalicious and I set forth on Friday evening with two bottles of wine and a whole lot of anticipation. We arrived and while waiting for our table got sucked into a discussion about wine with a table of eight persons at the front of the restaurant. One thing led to another, and we ended up sharing their wine and sharing ours with them. The host of this party was one of the restaurant's suppliers of Italian products, so he was very helpful in telling us what to order. We shared a tasty Caesar salad (not enough anchovies for Herb, but otherwise delicious) and then tried a truly amazing pasta dish of black ink pappardelle with a crab and shrimp sauce that was easily the best pasta I've had in ages. Al dente and deliciously complimented by the subtle crab and shrimp. I am drooling again just thinking about it. We also shared a very well prepared salmon dish. Many glasses of wine later, the chef came out to the dining room to applause all around. Of course we shared our wine with Franca - she earned it! What a totally fun place, and what wonderful and authentic food! I will never wait so long again to try a universally applauded Chowhound recommendation! Thanks to everyone whose posts piqued my curiosity - it was well worth it!
