Oh my. On one of my walks with our ChowPup this week, supposedly to shed a few pounds, I discovered that the new-improved-after-the-fire Gyro Corner decided, most fortuitously, to finally feature a spit of doner roast pork (previously I had to have it at Gyro World on the corner across from Pier 1 on Northern Blvd....)How bad for my diet!
I'm a Fontana's girl, and I feel like I'm cheating when I'm anywhere else, but I've been back THREE TIMES this week. This pork is unbelievable. Think crusty, garlicky, almost Dominican charred pernil sliced off a spit in a fluffy pita with lots of yogurt sauce. The Oaxacan man who slices it says it's been selling like hotcakes. No duh.
I somehow managed to cajole my husband into tasting some a mere hour after our ceviche dinner at La Pollada de Laura(hey, ceviche is light stuff.....) and he is "concerned" that something this good is so close to our home. RUN THERE!!!!! Do as my dad does and order "TWO DOLLARS EXTRA MEAT" for a taste of Nirvana. It's ridiculous.
