Had a very nice dinner at Avenue (85th and Columbus) last night. The menu is divided oddly into small dishes, medium dishes, and large dishes....but perhaps these would be better labelled less expensive, somewhat expensive, and more expensive.....
I had she-crab soup, which was good if somewhat underseasoned. It was served in an incredibly hot bowl, which was annoying because the seats were too close to the table and it was hard to eat without touching the bowl.
For the main course I had roast duck, which was crisp without being dry. Other diners with me had the devils on horseback (oysters wrapped in bacon etc.) and the risotto with scallops. The latter was better than the former.
This place wouldn't be much in midtown, but on the UWS, it's a pleasant spot.
