We just had a very enjoyable lunch at Avacado. We had planned to wander on down 17th this afternoon and have lunch at either the new Ox and Angela or Cilantro. Sadly, we didn't do much pre-planning and found out that both are not open on Saturdays until 5pm. But Avacado was open with plenty of room on the patio. Although there was nearly no one in the entire place, we decided to give it a try. And it was actually very good. We assumed it would be a mexican inspired food, by the name, but aside from the few burritos and one quesadilla dish, they had a good mix of menu items. I had the beef short ribs with garlic mashed potatoes, and grilled zuccini and cherry tomatoes. The beef was wonderfully braised and tender. Hot Date had one of the 'summer specials', a thick cut grilled pork chop with tomato jam, julienne veggies and roast baby potatoes. The pork was cooked to perfection and the sides were generous portions.
People started to trickle in while we were there. It was getting quite busy by the time we left. But despite a late lunch crowd picking up, the service was excellent and very attentive. I think we even got a little extra wine in our 8oz servings!
We didn't have room for dessert but may like to come back to try the homemade churros next time!
