We got into Round Rock last Tues. P.M. We went to Gumbo's for dinner and were quite pleased. 2 years ago when we were there I ordered the pork loin with the sweet potato puree with bacon and fried sweet potato frites as a garnish. This time the garnish was crab which was okay but I would have prefered the sweet potato frites.
Checked into the Inter-Continental on Congress and 7th and met up with our group who decided to fly in. It was between Schmick and McCormick or Manuels for dinner. We all ended up at Manuels. The food was divine. I shared my tortilla soup with the whole table. The mole enchiladas were to die for as were the other entrees. We were a group of 7 and asking for 6 seperate tabs. We told the waitron up front that we would need seperate tbs. He said we could work all of that out at the end. Well the end came. We all figured out what we owed and told him. It took over 45 minutes to get him to bring out our buks and they were WRONG! Each was about 20% over the calculated total and the waitron got petulant and said he was out a dollar on the bill and did not need a tip! One member of the party left a dollar. Waitron also forgot one of the party paid in cash and wanted to charge twice.
Next day I had brunch on my own at the Hickory Stick on Congress. Terrific Migas. It pretty much held me for the day. That night was Louies 106 on 6th. We were a large group with dinner downstairs in a private room. Food was good. But, even with the poor service I would rather go back to Manuels.
We took off the next AM and headed to Lockheart and each had an order of smoked sausage at Kreuze mkt. Lovely and since we were pacing ourselves waited until Luling to order smoked brisket and a couple of ribs.
It was a long day and took us 2 hours to get around Houston, hitting it at 4:00 P.M. to get to Metarie LA.
More on the south board and if I can ifgure out how to insert photos, pix of the incredible lunch inBreaux Bridge will be attached.
