Were there Friday night and...it just wasn't very good. We were warned service could be an issue, but assured food was good, by friends...last time we take advice from them!
We started off with the gorgonzola, pear, and walnut flat bread. It was quite large, but had such tiny slivers of pear so scantily scattered on the bread, all you tasted was the goopy, very strong cheese. There was absolutely nothing to balance the dish. And, it was covered with pine nuts...not walnuts. When you got a bite with pear and cheese, it was fine, but that was one out of every 5 bites.
I had the red snapper, which came with a potato and cauliflower salad. The salad was tasty and well seasoned, especially with the olive emulsion. The fish, however, tasted like nothing (it appeared to have some seasoning, but I couldn't taste anything--not even fish) and was cooked to the consistency of a tough steak--seriously, my knife had problems sawing through it at times. With the olive emulsion, all you could taste was olive because the fish had no flavor. They were busy taking pictures while cooking, so I imagine that's why my dish suffered...but that's not a good excuse for me.
My boyfriend had a special, sea bass with white bean salad. His fish was cooked perfectly, with a nice citrus flavor, but the white bean salad was inconsistent. Some beans were hard, others were mushy. I could only guess they were running out and put some already cooked ones back in with uncooked beans.
Service was fine (we had heard it was terrible, but they also weren't very busy) but things just didn't seem clean. The bread basket was dirty, the wine bucket had pieces of food all over the outside, and I couldn't use one of my forks because it was covered in something crusty. One of these things, I could forgive. But three was just too much.
As an aside, does that restaurant have a bathroom? I didn't want to fight to the back of the kitchen to ask...but then again, we won't be back, so it doesn't matter...
