Aspen warms us on a cold night

Just had an excellent dinner at Aspen, 25th and Aspen in the Fairmount area.
We live closeby and they've been open for over a year, but somehow we never got there before this.
There's a room with a large bar and a few tables, and then an attractive room behind it for dining.
My husband had the soup special, a Manhattan-type seafood chowder ($5) and I had the spinach salad ($7) which I liked; fresh, crisp baby spinach leaves, goat cheese, bacon, spicy toasted nuts in a light vinaigrette. (I hate it when they overdress the salad.) It was big enough to share.
My husband had the cod special ($15) with tomato and chorizo sausage and thought it was spectacular. I had the filet medallions ($23) which were the most expensive thing on the menu. There were four, and done very rare, as requested. They came with garlic mashed potatoes and haricots vert, both so delicious that they were more than just a "side." Both of our dishes had lots of garlic and lovely sauces; my husband said his dish had chunks of garlic in it.
Most of the entrees were priced in the teens, and portions are generous.
We were too full for dessert.
Aspen was a nice discovery for us. Judging by tonight's dinner, we would rank it high among the places in the Fairmount area.
