Asia Combination

I think that there was a post about this place awhile ago, but I just wanted to add my extremely favorable impression of the place. Asia Combination is an Indonesian/thai restaurant (with take-out) at 13th and Wharton. We walked in at about 3 PM on Saturday and seemed to interrupt the family/staff meal, but they welcomed us in.
To start they give you a little bowl of savory tuiles, (at least they reminded me of tuiles - maybe they're a bit closer to the chip) studded with peanuts and ginger and fried in (what we think was) coconut oil. they were so, so, so nicely thought out and indeed prepared.
I had a hot and sour soup - what a revelation! This was no gooey broth. Rather, the broth was perfectly seasoned and each element: chicken, vegetables, mushrooms, was fresh and delicious. I liked how the cut of the carrots and other veggies revealed an "actual person's" chopping skills...more like homestyle than trained chef. There was something very appealing about that. My boyfriend had a coconut milk/chicken soup. We both agreed that the hot and sour soup was better, but enjoyed that as well.
For a main plate we shared a beef and tofu chili dish. Spicy (hot) and very restorative, a nice dish to follow the soup.
And that was our meal. I haven't been so thoroughly content with a restaurant meal in awhile. It's extremely reasonably priced (those dishes with a soda for about $15-20) and a friendly place.
