Our teenage son has a thing for the black cod at Asakuma, and has been pleading with us to go there. As a result of driving over to Giovanni's Trattoria, and finding them closed on Sunday, we then gave in to his wheedling and went last night.
I will admit that the cod is a seductive dish. And the fact that we were early and got the cheaper version didn't hurt either. We had a bit of sushi first, three hand rolls, (one for the teen and two for me) and an Asakuma roll cut up for my wife.
The food here is good, not great. The tab came to $97, plus tip, but that included the sushi, the two cod dinners and my wife's lobster, (Japanese thermador style) along with two cokes and a large Sapporo. Not an unreasonable amount of money for the quality and quantity.
This is the type of place you might consider if you were on a date and wanted a nicer venue, or if you had your favorite aunt with you. I give it a qualified fork, (or in this case O-hashi) up.
We plan on going to try Giovanni's Trattoria another night based on the recommendations here.
