Argentinian food in Astoria

Months ago an Argentinian steak house opened up on 20th Ave. and Steinway across the street from La Sirena. Last night, the boyfriend and I got a chance to try out the place. My expectations were fairly low as I do not eat red meat.

Well, I decided to go with the tomato salad and shrimp on skewer. The boyfriend opted for a chicken empanada and filet mignon topped with cheese. Shrimps were plump, tender, and lightly marinated--perfect summer fare. The filet mignon, from the looks of it was thick, juicy, and grilled medium rare. He seemed to languish the flavor and the way the meat fell off the knife when he sliced away. Dessert was banana crepe; we tasted peach in the mix of chocolate syrup and banana. We were taken with our respective entrees of shrimp and steak. All else was non-descript though I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of pastas, meats, and drinks on the menu.

All in all it was a good dining experience. It helped considerably that the prices were very affordable and service attentive though I'd have been perplexed if it weren't; we were the only two diners last night.
