Antica Venezia on West St & 10th - A great find!

We thought we were headed to Uguale at 396 West Street and 10th Street. It was described as "romantic, fireplace, great view." We arrived and found that Antica Venezia had taken its place. (Thank goodness the name Uguale still appeared on a sign outside or we would have been lost!)

The atmosphere is lovely...exposed brick walls, a two-sided fireplace with a roaring fire, a view of the Hudson (the windows are frosted partially down so you miss all the traffic on West Street).

Nice wine list, we chose one of the most inexpensive wines, a very good Chilean red for $30 that they decanted at the table. I asked if they only decanted some wines and they said that they decanted all of them.

The room was so dark I had a hard time reading the menu so we just ordered two of the specials, veal shank with risotto and a whole fish that our waiter boned and finished off tableside. They do a really nice tableside service: a rolling table with a burner so they can flame cognac and other ingredients to make sauces.

Another special touch is that, after dinner, they roll out a bar of four flavors of (complimentary) homemade grappe and after dinner drinks: sambucca, limoncello, grappa with raisins and grappa with blueberries. The sambucca and limoncello were especially delicious.

A great, romantic, delicious and lovely dinner with wonderful service.

I'm surprised I haven't heard about it before.
