Amazing Meal at L'Orangerie

We've been eating at all the high end restaurants lately, and hands down, the best meal we have experienced has been at L'Orangerie. We knew there was a new chef, and we have always liked the romantic atmosphere. Happily, it was a meal to remember. Mrs. started with the caviar service. It was unique in that they served the caviar on an incredible potato waffle. This was as good as any blini, and a creative change. In addition, we had a delicious fois gras creme brulee that could have been dessert. Another appetizer we shared was a shrimp and crab dish that was yum. We followed with carmelized scallops in a light coconut broth that was outrageous and a loup de mer that was light but extremely flavorful, and cooked to perfection. We were really surprised how great we thought it was after coming off meals at Bastide, Ortalan, Melisse, Patina, Alain Ducasse in NY, and Fleur de Lys in San Francisco. To finish we had a chocolate trio that was great and an amazing apple tart as light and delicious as the ones in Paris. Granted, we were there on a week night, but the restaurant was only half full. Seeing as this is as good as any meal you can get in LA, we wanted to get the word out that it would be a shame to lose a place as great as L'Orangerie.
