yo sf,

As I said, I'm a hole-in-the-way to medium level fancy 'hound. Coming to visit SF after living in NYC 7 years and Hawaii the rest of my life. So I like plate lunch kine grinds but i get one proclivity to asian grindz too ;-) ok back to nyc speak, and seriously, i am going to be in sf for an extended stay but without access to a car (maybe 1 or 2 times w/ fam). i have some specific requests, i have searched your archives and find a lot of recs either 1) totally out of town or not clearly marked as metro (aka bart accessibly) area or 2) fancy

here is what i need and found so far -- please eloborate

-restaurants/coffee shops/markets for following areas

1) potrero hill (walking distance/quick cab or bart)
2) civic center (walking distance and recs for cab)

what i like:

-all vietnamese (best summer rolls?)
-all thai (best tom yum/ pad kra prow spicey/garlicky/basilly ;-)
-spicy indian (has anyone heard of 5 star in nyc?)
-seared ahi and awesome calamari
-good sushi AND places to avoid in CC area plz
-burgers (especially when served with guac -- u guys gotta have this)
-homestyle japanese curry/dons
-hawaiian/pan asian/fusion but not the 4 star ones plz
-meal size salads and healthy meals that aren't "live" / on small plates or overly organic (no offense ;-)
-any great hole in the wall
-mexican places with lots of cilantro and fish
-great sandwich makers/delis
-lounges with good DJs and reasonable food / drinks (not a more scene -- maybe in the industrial area?)
-wine by the glass
-steak/french bistro (not too expensive - in nyc i go to a great columbian place for my steaks -rib eye - w/ rice, beans, maduros and side salad/bread and tip = $21 .. yes and the steak is enough for two normal people or 1 me)

this is what i have deduced thus far?
CC original joes (burgers)
CC thirsty bear (ahi, tapas, alcohol)
PH hazels (sandwiches big salads)
PH conn yanke (burgers, beer, no 'tude?)
?? Osha Thai for Tom Yum (very important)
?? Citrus Club (pho)
CC Masala (indian)
CC Tallula (indian)
CC Tu Lan (viet)
US Sears Fine Food (corned beef hash mmm..)
need another hearty close bfast joint in cc thnx
also i heard there was a health food store near where i'm staying (7th and mission) -- true? other markets?
