Allegro-- a disappointment

Finally tried Allegro, the newish simple Moroccan place on the corner of 4th Ave. and Dean St. I didn't really have high expectations and they barely met them. The food is as ordinary as the place looks. Cross this off the list of potentially good cheap and quick restaurants near BAM.

I ordered take out. First, the lamb stew with prunes (called "stew" not tagine) which was sweet but was otherwise very bland. I asked for rice with it, but they said it was served with french fries. I also ordered the beef kofte, but they said they don't serve it any more because it was too spicy(!), so I ended up with the lamb kabob which was quite tough. (at least this came with rice)

They say that their food is made fresh to order. This seems to be true, it did take nearly 15 minutes to prepare. But the basic ingredients were not very good. The rice was soggy, weakly flavored and adorned with frozen peas and carrots. The potatoes were freshly fried frozen french fries, etc.
