Alexandria/Dupont Circle--Thanks Hounds!

Last week I wrote asking for advice for dinners in Dupont and lunches in Alexandria. I appreciated the advice, and here's what happened.

Alexandria lunch: my lunch companion decided, and we went to the former Blue Point Grill, now Balducci's. My companion was thrilled with the hamburger and I chose a BBQ salmon salad. The piece of salmon was good, but the sauce was way too sweet. It was served over a salad of pea shoots and preserved lemon, but the dressing was also overly sweet.

Dupont dinners. Once night I took the Metro and walked to Corduroy. Not too busy, so I sat in the lounge. Had a half portion of the vegetable melange. I think they decided I was vegan (I do eat dairy and fish) so I got a lovely circle of rice topped with a spicy hikiji/lotus root mix. This was surrounded by plain but delicious portions of carrots, green beans and sliced shiitake mushrooms. For only $9, it was a steal. I had the Buddha's Hand citron vodka "martini" w/ Grand Marnier and lime juice, which was really nice.

The other evening I had dinner w/ family, but got back to Dupont early. I stopped at Firefly to try the Bourbon slipp. Very smooth, and I also had the seared tuna app w/ shallot grape chutney. It was supposed to come w/ watercress but it showed up w/ cilantro. The cocktail was so nice I decided not to get it corrected, and just pushed the cilantro to the side. The bar was exceptionally quiet, and the bartender attributed this to St. Patty's.

My last day there I stopped into Thai Chef for a quick sushi lunch. Had an albacore roll, a hamachi roll and a piece of mackerel. Very pleased with all three.

Very nice visit, and good eats. I might not stay at Jurys Normandy the next time, but would probably try for another Dupont Circle Hotel!
