hoping that alerto's is a copycat of san diego chain roberto's, which spawned alberto's,aliberto's,royberto's,gilberto's(you get the idea), my husband & i eagerly awaited sampling their carne asada burrito. indeed we are happy to report it is a perfect example of the burritos we chowed on all through high school. a meat stuffed monster:stretchy tortilla, a touch of cool guacamole to create that special gravy necessary to accent the hot little cubes of seared steak,a bit of tomato,onion,cilantro to give some freshness & acidity. i know there's a hound or two out there looking for this very thing.thank you elmomonster for sharing the info, you really made us smile.
last saturday we made lunch of various tacos at don chuy's.the homemade corn tortillas were great, just the right thickness.our favorite filling was the goat.dense chunks,rich & gently sweet.the carnitas was tired,the carne deshebrada good, but needed salt. it's quite a friendly place,with a man who appeared to be the owner making sure we got enough to eat.we're definitely returning for $.99 taco tuesday for more goat tacos, followed by paletas from la fortuna market next door. thanks WLA for the tip.
