I called Aleo to order what I thought would be just another grandma style pie, Pizza Rustica. What I got was a doughy, thick crust covered with sauce and a mixture of breadcrumbs and olive oil amoung other things with no discernable cheese.
I'm not sure what kind of face I made when I tried that first bite but it likely wasn't pretty. Yet there was something about that combination of flavors besides carb overload, something that brought me back to italy. Even now as I eat a reheated slice, if I close my eyes I am back in Rome or Florence. and, with the economy the way it is, this is the closest I am likely to come to italy for a while.
The kicker is that the pizza is just as good reheated. I don't care how good the pies are anywhere, but how many of those great pies are as good reheated? This is serious food and an experience not to be missed.
