I didn't pick it but since we were in the neighborhood North North Beach we went to Albona - a restaurant specializing in Istrian cuisine. I like POV (point of view) restaurants. From the whole menu our party of 4 could only find 2 entrees to attempt- halibut(3) and lamb(1). We started with a salad and caponata both good. I had the lamb which was good, although the portion size was about 3-4 oz of lamb stew with exactly 2 stuffed mushrooms, the halibut was just as generous (and nobody shared because they couldn't afford to let thos calories go!) I heard no complaints about the halibut and then they got a side plate of steamed veggies which was again rather meager for $20.
The owner went to great detail about the soup which nobody was interested in although a great food hiStory we just wanted to order. We knew not to ask any more questions for fear of another 20 minute lecture/discourse. Although if you want to duscuss Istria go and chat up Bruno (owner/host/etc.)
Then there was the particularly awkward/gross moment when Bruno served somebody and somthing fell off the plate onto tableclth and Bruno just picked it up (with a comment) and put it back on the plate.
