Alameda and Oakland Dogs

Has anyone tried the new place that Jon Thiele (owner of Pappo) opened in the Alameda Marketplace? I saw a mention in the local paper and appears to be based on the East Coast deep fried hot dog. I have always wanted to visit Rutts Hut in New Jersey and would be pleased if this was comparable ~ save me a lot of time and money! Ruth, you seem all over the best of Alameda ~ have you tried this yet? It may be a very specific yearning and not appeal to all.

In a related topic, I recently tried Oh My Dawg in Oakland on Second Street between Broadway and Washington. While the owner was very nice, overall it was ok, maybe worth a return trip. The casing on the keilbasa was a little tough for my taste and the thin battered coated fries are frozen. Good roll though and lightly toasted which I like. At $8.75 for a dog, fries with dipping sauce and a drink, a little more than I would consider a bargain. Add your own condiments were relish, cold sauerkraut, chopped onions, ketchup and yellow mustard.
