So I've searched and searched the boards and yelp, and I can't seem to figure out where to take my mom for tea on her visit. Mom's staying in Newport Beach and will be visiting San Diego and San Juan Capistrano so we could do tea there as well. I'm basically looking for something like the Scarlet Tea Room, but Pasadena's a little too far to go.
Requirements: traditional in terms of what's served. Must have scones with clotted cream, Earl Grey available, and preferably small sandwiches with ham, cucumber, and the like. Kumquat tarts just aren't her thing.
Atmosphere: on the classier side, nice china, that kind of thing. Last time she was here we went to the Tudor House in Santa Monica, and I think she was a little disappointed with the 'everyday' atmosphere. Hopefully, not too kitschy either, as my dad and husband will be coming along as well. The more like Brown's or the Ritz in London, the better.
Will we be forced to make the trek to BH or Pasadena? And even then, do you think Scarlet is the way to go or should we go Peninsula, etc.? But preferably, any recs near the south Beaches/Orange County?
