Acme Poppy Seed Kaiser Roll

It has been quite a few years since I’ve been to the original Acme bakery store in Berkeley. Kaiser rolls were new to me. In addition to poppy seed they have sesame and plain.

These are actually better than the poppy seed rolls I ate growing up. They are thicker and yeastier with a nice crust. I noticed the Kaiser rolls at The Junket in El Cerrito, but I didn’t realize they were from Acme. The junket uses Acme bread for its sandwiches.

The apple turnovers were new to me too. I don’t know what kind of apples those are but the buttery slices are just the best. Nice flakey turnover also. Good version of the ham and cheese turnover too with thick pieces of chopped ham in the cheese.

Tried a piece of the croissant. These are now my second favorite. Very close to Masse’s with the crispy exterior and rich buttery interior. Masse’s are just a bit more buttery.

Is there any schedule at the Berkeley shop where certain items are baked on certain days?

What about Café Fanny? It has been eons since I’ve eaten there. Anything special to look for?
