Moved back to Spokane after being away for 20 years. I know many restaurants have come and gone over the years, but sadly there are still not a lot of good options for mid-priced meals. I do a lot of takeout, and my current favorite is Abelardo's in the Valley. I also love DeLeon's, but lately I've been hooked on the carnitas plate at Abelardo's. For around $8, you get a large portion of carnitas, a scoop of rice and beans, and some pico de gallo, guacamole and flour or corn tortillas. Other items I've tried are the adobada tacos, fish tacos, and the breakfast burrito. I found the adobada to be tasty, though the meat was bit tough. The fish tacos contain a large, deep-fried crispy piece of fish, cabbage and white sauce, also very tasty. The breakfast burrito is huge, and contains ham, egg, and onions. Delicious and a great deal at $3.50. It's surprising to me how early many restaurants close around Spokane. Abelardo's used to be open 24 hours, but are no longer. They open at 6am, and I believe they are open until 2am for the taco-craving after bar crowd. The restaurant itself is clean, though the front area could use a bit of decor. Definitely give them a try if you are in the area.
