I've got a long layover in Miami and would like to get out of the airport for about 6 hours. I'm willing to rent a car if that's the best way to go about things. My priority is finding something very good to eat. Definitely ethnic. I've never been to Miami, except for the airport on many occasions, so I don't really know my way around all that much, but GPS will solve that problem. I will be by myself, so that means I am open to any and all options. I will say, though, that my idea of great food is not typically housed in a big, showy, expensive restaurant -- I tend to like more casual, more authentic options than that. I'm interested in farmers markets and very good food stores, too.
I recognize this is broad, so to narrow it down, I guess I'd say that I am going to confine myself to one neighborhood. That'll keep me out of traffic and make best use of my minimal time.
Should I visit South Beach? My impression from reading the board is that is too showy and glitzy. Calle Ocho? That seems like a viable option. Or somewhere else? Thanks for your help.
