I will be in New Orleans for five days March 14-18 for a conference at the Sheraton on Canal Street, where I will also be staying at night. I will not have a car. I've been lurking for a while on the board and have gotten lots of ideas, but I'm concerned about wait times. What are some options for quick, inexpensive breakfasts ($10 or less) and lunches ($15 or less) near my conference( I have some guesses below)? How long will it take me to walk to the following?
Breakfasts - mostly interested in the coffee and pastry types of places, maybe some homemade granola:
CC's Community Coffeehouse
I also hope to have one leisurely lunch day, which I plan to spend at August. Will I need reservations for lunch?
For dinners, I am a little lost because so many of the recommendations are pretty expensive for my budget. For my "splurge" nights, I am planning on visiting Cochon and possibly Brightson's (although that would require a cab ride, I believe). Cheaper recommendations ($20 or less)?
Also, if I wanted to have a night out, the Rebirth Brass Band at the Maple Leaf Bar on Tuesday night has been recommended to me. Looks like this would also be a cab ride, yes? Dinner recommendations for that area? My other thought for this is whatever is playing at the Preservation Hall some night.
Thanks so much! I get the impression that it will hard for me to eat any bad food while visiting, and I'm looking forward to. I haven't made reservations yet, but I'm hoping you all will be too tuckered from Mardi Gras to go out much next week.
