Let’s see . . . the last time I ate at diVine Pizza was five years ago.
Since then, it has moved to Dry Creek Road (next to Tip Top and across the street from Big John’s market) expanding into larger quarters with a sports bar and outdoor seating.
Driving by Saturday, I noticed banners promoting a $5 burger and fries special for the month of January. I decided to have lunch here on the patio. My server said that the burger on the special was the same as the half-pound Angus burger normally priced at $8.49 on the menu. Besides the choice of fries or salad, I could even add cheese at that price.
Ordered “medium”, my burger came out more like well-done. Yet while pretty lean, the patty wasn’t dried out and had some charring under the thin layer of pepper jack cheese. No salt or pepper though, which made me pull my burger apart to season it properly after putting it together with the garnishes and taking that first bite. The freshly baked and lightly grilled Franco-American Bakery bun almost overwhelmed the hamburger patty but the dense and chewy bread soon grew on me. Whole leaf lettuce, a slice of tomato, dill pickle, and onion garnishes were served on the side. I especially enjoyed the golden-brown, crusty fries. Really good, staying crunchy even after they cooled down.
An honest burger. Not perfect but more than satisfying for lunch (especially the French fries) and a deal at this price.
